A major controversy has erupted within the Pakistan cricket team amid the ongoing Test series against England. The PCB recently released seven players, including Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan, from the Test squad. Now, another significant report regarding Imam-ul-Haq has surfaced. According to reports, Imam could face a lengthy ban if the PCB’s investigation uncovers any wrongdoing related to his injury status.
Questions Surrounding Imam-ul-Haq’s Injury
Imam sustained a minor calf injury on the opening day of the Lord’s Test. However, he did not come out to bat in either of Pakistan’s innings. Pakistan were bowled out for just 110 runs in the first innings and managed only 194 runs in the second innings. England eventually won the match by 194 runs.
The PCB now wants to determine the actual severity of Imam’s injury. Reports suggest the board is reviewing medical assessments and other details related to the incident. If any discrepancy is found, disciplinary action could follow.
Previous Injury Controversy
This is not the first time Imam’s injury concerns have come under scrutiny. During Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in March 2025, he suffered a toe injury after being struck by the ball. Reports at the time claimed that questions were raised regarding the reporting of his injury symptoms.
As a result, the Lord’s Test incident has attracted even greater attention within PCB circles.
Mohammad Rizwan Also Under Scrutiny
Mohammad Rizwan is another senior player reportedly facing questions from the PCB. Reports indicate that the board could review certain disciplinary matters involving the wicketkeeper-batter. Rizwan, who previously served as Pakistan’s white-ball captain, currently faces uncertainty regarding his immediate return to the national side.
Major Changes in Pakistan Squad
Following the defeat at Lord’s, the PCB released seven players from the squad. The list includes Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamir Jamal, Muhammad Awais Zafar, and Khurram Shahzad.
Pakistan have responded by bringing in five uncapped players for the third Test. Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal have also returned to the squad.
The third Test between England and Pakistan will begin in Birmingham on September 9. England currently lead the series 2-0. Pakistan now face a difficult challenge as they attempt to avoid a series whitewash.
