The men’s Big Bash League began in 2011, and its first completed season was 2011–12. This list covers every completed men’s BBL edition through 2025–26. The latest verified final was played on 25 January 2026, when Perth Scorchers beat Sydney Sixers by six wickets. “Present” in the title does not add an uncompleted season.
Big Bash League history
The modern BBL replaced Australia’s state-based Twenty20 format with eight city franchises. The launch competition placed two teams in Melbourne and two in Sydney, alongside clubs from Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart and Perth. That eight-team shape remains the current men’s competition structure.
The league’s title history is unusually concentrated. Perth Scorchers have won six championships, Sydney Sixers three, and Brisbane Heat two. Sydney Thunder, Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes have one each. Melbourne Stars have reached finals but have not won the men’s title.
Team changes and franchise status
The original eight franchises were Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder. No completed BBL champion has been replaced by a separate successor franchise in the records below.
A proposed Melbourne administrative merger and rebrand was reported in 2026, ahead of the 2026–27 season. That future arrangement does not merge the Stars’ and Renegades’ historical records, and it does not create a new past champion.
