India have made two changes across two different squads for the West Indies home series. Anshul Kamboj has replaced the injured Prasidh Krishna for the third ODI in New Chandigarh on 3 October. Naman Dhir has replaced Washington Sundar for the five-match T20I series beginning on 6 October. The second change is a preparation decision, not an injury announcement about Washington.

The BCCI’s official squad update makes that distinction clear. It also publishes both revised 15-player squads. Selection in a squad does not guarantee a place in the playing XI: neither Kamboj’s ODI appearance nor Dhir’s T20I appearance has been announced for a particular match.

Quick answer: Naman Dhir’s T20I call-up replaces Washington Sundar in India’s squad, while Anshul Kamboj is the separate replacement for Prasidh Krishna in the third ODI squad. The BCCI has not described Washington’s withdrawal as injury-related. The final match XIs remain subject to selection and toss announcements.

Why is Naman Dhir in India’s T20I squad?

The BCCI says its Senior Selection Committee, after consulting team management, decided to withdraw Washington from the T20Is. The reasoning is the calendar: India have an upcoming Test series against New Zealand, and the Ranji Trophy begins on 11 October. Playing red-ball cricket for his state side would give Washington preparation for the Test assignment. The board named Dhir as his T20I replacement.

That is an important difference from Prasidh’s situation. Calling this a double injury blow would misreport one of the two changes. Prasidh has a specified hamstring injury; the BCCI’s explanation for Washington is red-ball planning. Nor has the board announced that Washington is out of the New Zealand Tests. Its release says the opposite about the intention: prepare him for that series.

For Dhir, this is a move from one format’s squad into another. He was already in the original ODI squad against West Indies, as the BCCI’s 16 September team announcement shows. ESPNcricinfo’s independent report says he made his ODI debut in the ongoing series and did not bat in either of the first two games. His T20I squad inclusion should therefore be described as a T20I call-up, not as his first India squad selection or a confirmed T20I debut.

What role might he have? The official list names a 15-player squad, not a role-by-role playing XI. India have batters, wicketkeepers, all-round options and multiple bowlers in that group. Dhir’s selection offers another combination for the five fixtures; the choice of whether and when to use him belongs to the team management. Our Naman Dhir New Chandigarh player profile discusses verified local IPL records, which are not T20I statistics and do not predict what he will do against West Indies.

What happened to Prasidh Krishna before the third ODI?

Prasidh sustained a left hamstring injury during the second ODI in Guwahati, according to the BCCI. He will miss the third ODI. The selectors named Anshul Kamboj as his replacement, and the board says Kamboj will join India in Chandigarh. It has not given a public return-to-play date for Prasidh in this release.

The timing matters. The third ODI is scheduled for Saturday, 3 October at 2:00 PM IST in New Chandigarh. India can bring Kamboj into the squad, but a replacement announcement is not a playing-XI announcement. Mohammed Siraj, Gurnoor Brar and Auqib Nabi are also in the revised ODI group. Which attack India actually fields will become clear at the toss. Read our New Chandigarh third-ODI pitch report for separately sourced venue context; the report should not be treated as a confirmed team sheet.

ESPNcricinfo reports that Kamboj was recalled from the India A–Australia A four-day match to travel to New Chandigarh. It also notes that he had not played an ODI at the time of the report. Readers should not turn this selection into a claimed ODI debut before the scorecard exists.

India’s updated ODI squad for the third West Indies match

The following 15 names are taken from the BCCI’s updated list, not its September original. Bracketed roles are the board’s designations.

Batting and wicketkeeping All-round and bowling options
Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja
KL Rahul (vice-captain, wicketkeeper), Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper) Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Gurnoor Brar
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Naman Dhir Auqib Nabi, Anshul Kamboj

This table groups the BCCI’s 15 names for readability; it is not a predicted batting order or a final XI. The only change from the initial ODI selection is Kamboj replacing Prasidh. Naman’s presence on this ODI list did not begin with the T20I announcement.

India’s updated T20I squad: Naman in, Washington out

The BCCI’s revised 15-player T20I squad is:

Name Name Name
Shreyas Iyer (captain) Abhishek Sharma Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper) Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper) Tilak Varma (vice-captain)
Shivam Dube Kuldeep Yadav Axar Patel
Ravi Bishnoi Nitish Kumar Reddy Arshdeep Singh
Prince Yadav Mayank Yadav Naman Dhir

Washington Sundar was on the original 15-player list; Naman replaces him in this updated one. The squads for the third ODI and five T20Is must not be conflated. Shubman Gill captains the ODI squad, while Shreyas Iyer leads the T20I group in the published BCCI lists.

When are the India–West Indies T20Is?

The BCCI’s original tour fixture announcement lists five T20Is, all starting at 7:00 PM IST. The revised selection advisory changes personnel, not these published match dates.

Match Date City BCCI-listed start
1st T20I Tuesday, 6 October 2026 Lucknow 7:00 PM IST
2nd T20I Friday, 9 October 2026 Ranchi 7:00 PM IST
3rd T20I Sunday, 11 October 2026 Indore 7:00 PM IST
4th T20I Wednesday, 14 October 2026 Hyderabad 7:00 PM IST
5th T20I Saturday, 17 October 2026 Bengaluru 7:00 PM IST

The change to Washington’s availability came ahead of this five-game run. It affects the options from Lucknow onward, not India’s separate 3 October ODI selection. For T20I fans, the first team sheet on 6 October will answer whether Dhir plays immediately or begins among the reserves.

What these changes mean before the toss

India have two decisions rather than one combined selection dilemma. At New Chandigarh, they must replace an unavailable fast bowler in their ODI match squad. Kamboj supplies cover, but the eventual balance can also be shaped by the pitch, available bowlers and the captain’s plan. The BCCI has confirmed a squad addition, not a predetermined new-ball partnership.

Then the team turns to the T20I series with Sundar absent by a deliberate preparation choice. His removal changes the menu of spin-bowling and batting combinations; it does not automatically give Dhir the same job or a guaranteed run of matches. The relevant question is how India’s selectors balance batting depth, spin and pace at each ground. The squad lists provide the available names, while the XIs will settle the actual choices.

The clearest takeaway for readers is to keep the formats apart. Kamboj replaces Prasidh for the third ODI. Dhir replaces Washington for the T20Is. Prasidh’s withdrawal is injury-related; Washington’s is not described that way in the BCCI release. Save the official BCCI revised-squad advisory and check the scorecard or toss for actual debuts and XI changes.

FAQs on India’s revised West Indies squads

Q1. Is Washington Sundar injured?

The BCCI has not said he is injured in this squad advisory. It says he has been withdrawn from the West Indies T20Is so he can play red-ball cricket and prepare for the New Zealand Test series.

Q2. Is Naman Dhir making his India debut in the T20Is?

No debut has been confirmed. He had already been picked in the ODI squad and, according to ESPNcricinfo, made his ODI debut in the ongoing West Indies series. His T20I selection is a call-up, not proof that he will appear in the XI.

Q3. Will Anshul Kamboj play the third ODI?

The BCCI has named him Prasidh Krishna’s replacement in the squad, but has not announced the 3 October playing XI. Check the toss/team sheet for his match participation.

Q4. When is the third India–West Indies ODI?

The BCCI lists it for Saturday, 3 October 2026 at 2:00 PM IST in New Chandigarh.

Q5. How many West Indies T20Is will India play?

Five, on 6, 9, 11, 14 and 17 October 2026. The BCCI lists Lucknow, Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad and Bengaluru as the respective host cities.
