New Zealand lost Devon Conway before the first ODI against India. The opener suffered a concussion in a training collision with Matt Henry at Eden Park. Tim Seifert replaced Conway in the team.
The update adds to New Zealand’s growing injury list. Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman were already ruled out of the five-match series. The second ODI status for Conway and Henry is still unknown.
Conway Ruled Out After Training Collision
Conway and Henry collided while trying to take a catch in training on Tuesday. New Zealand Cricket said medical staff treated both players at the ground.
Conway then went to hospital for more checks. Those checks confirmed a concussion. That ruled him out of the first ODI in Auckland on 4 November.
New Zealand Cricket said both players would stay under medical watch. It also said updates on their series involvement would come later. No official update has confirmed Conway for the second ODI.
Tim Seifert Takes Conway’s Place
New Zealand confirmed that Tim Seifert would replace Conway for the opener. Seifert had already returned to the wider ODI plans after New Zealand’s earlier injury news.
His move gives New Zealand another batting option. It changed the team’s plans just before the series began. The first match was scheduled for November 4 at Eden Park.
Our Cricket News coverage will track the latest team updates.
Ravindra And Chapman Already Out
Rachin Ravindra is missing because of a shoulder injury. Mark Chapman is out with a hamstring problem. Both players were ruled out before Conway’s concussion.
Indian Express reported that New Zealand had already called Tim Seifert and Henry Nicholls into its plans. The series guide listed the first three matches in Auckland, Wellington and Hamilton.
The second ODI is set for November 7 in Wellington. New Zealand’s final playing group will depend on medical checks and team selection. Fans can also review our India’s last T20I in Wellington report for ground context.
What Remains Unknown
New Zealand has confirmed Conway’s absence from the opener. It has not confirmed his availability for Wellington. The same applies to Henry after their collision.
The team will need to wait for further medical updates. Until then, Seifert remains the confirmed replacement for the first ODI. Any later change must come from New Zealand Cricket or the team management.
