Where it began
Early life and cricket education
Arshdeep Singh was born in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, on 5 February 1999. He moved to Chandigarh with his family and began training at Jaswant Rai’s cricket academy in 2015.
That left-arm angle soon became his point of difference. He developed as a bowler who could swing the ball early and return at the end of an innings, where yorkers and slower balls demand precision.
The first big stage
Punjab and the Under-19 step
Arshdeep Singh was named in India’s squad for the 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup. India won the tournament, giving him an early taste of a successful international campaign even before his senior debut.
His List A debut for Punjab came in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, while the IPL gave him a faster route into high-level T20 cricket. Those stages helped turn a promising left-arm seamer into a specialist trusted in difficult overs.
From prospect to India bowler
Arshdeep Singh’s international career
Arshdeep Singh made his T20I debut against England in Southampton on 7 July 2022. He bowled a maiden over on debut and took two wickets, an unusually clear start to his India career.
He was part of India’s winning 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign. In 2024, he also finished as the leading T20I wicket-taker for the year with 36 wickets in 18 matches, and the ICC named him Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year.
His international value is not only about a single spell. The left-arm angle gives India variety, while his work at the start and end of T20 innings places him in the roles where a small error can change a match.
The franchise journey
Punjab Kings and the IPL
Arshdeep Singh made his IPL debut for Punjab Kings in 2019 and has remained with the franchise.
His 2021 season was a major marker: he took 18 wickets, including his first IPL five-wicket haul. He took 14 wickets in 14 matches for Punjab Kings in IPL 2026. The Punjab Kings team profile provides the franchise context.
