The Eden Park T20I pitch report starts with two features: short straight boundaries and a surface where both pace and spin can take wickets. Clean hitting can bring big totals. Yet this Auckland ground has also seen batting collapses. Boundary size alone does not decide how a T20I will play.
This guide covers the main Eden Park stadium. It explains the men’s T20I scores, pitch trends, leading batters and bowlers. The records are separate from those of Eden Park Outer Oval.
Ground Overview
| Detail | Ground Information |
|---|---|
| Stadium | Eden Park |
| City | Auckland, New Zealand |
| Records Covered | Men’s Twenty20 Internationals |
| Ground Excluded | Eden Park Outer Oval |
| Main Scoring Feature | Short straight boundaries; dimensions depend on the pitch used |
Eden Park is a large, multi-use stadium. Its cricket field does not have the same shape as a wide, round oval. The short straight boundary gives a batter a clear hitting option. That makes bowling length and field placement important.
Eden Park T20I Statistics
| Record | Figure |
|---|---|
| Recorded Men’s T20Is | 33 |
| Matches With A Result | 32 |
| Batting-First Wins, Including Tiebreaker Outcomes | 16 |
| Chasing Wins, Including Tiebreaker Outcomes | 16 |
| No Results | 1 |
| First-Innings Average, All Recorded Innings | 167.00 runs from 33 innings |
| First-Innings Average, Result Matches | 171.03 runs from 32 innings |
| Second-Innings Average, Result Matches | 152.50 runs from 32 innings |
| Highest Team Total | Australia, 245/5 against New Zealand on 16 February 2018 |
| Highest Successful Chase | Australia, 245/5 in the same match |
| Lowest Total, Including Shortened Matches | Bangladesh, 76 in a 10-over match on 1 April 2021 |
| Regulation Ties Settled By A Tiebreaker | 4: one bowl-out and three Super Overs |
The innings averages include shortened games. They are not averages for 20-over matches alone. The first-innings figure of 167.00 also includes New Zealand’s partial innings in the October 2025 no-result game. Successful chases can end before 20 overs, which also affects the second-innings average.
Three result matches used DLS. Two other matches were reduced to 11 overs and 10 overs. These games remain in the overall T20I record. The lowest total of 76 should therefore not be read as a full-length, 20-over benchmark.
Eden Park Pitch Report
Is The Ground Good For Batting?
Eden Park can reward positive batting. Australia chased 245/5 here in 2018. Pakistan reached 207/1 while chasing New Zealand’s 204 in March 2025. New Zealand and West Indies also scored 207/5 and 204/8 in November 2025.
Those scores show the ceiling. They do not mean every match will cross 200. New Zealand were bowled out for 102 against Australia in February 2024. South Africa made 136/9 in March 2026. A side still needs a sound start and batters who handle the bowling well.
The short straight boundary makes a full ball tempting to attack. Bowlers must judge the batter’s reach and avoid giving the same scoring option too often. Batters also need to use the field rather than hit every ball in one direction.
How Much Help Do Pace Bowlers Get?
Pace has a strong record at Eden Park. Lockie Ferguson took 4/12 against Australia in February 2024. Jayden Seales took 3/32 in the November 2025 West Indies match. The overall wicket table includes Southee, Ferguson, Milne and Mills near the top.
These spells show why pace should not be ignored at a small ground. A bowler can still create chances with speed, line and a change of length. A short boundary can punish a poor ball. It does not remove the value of accurate bowling.
Can Spinners Be Effective?
Yes. Adam Zampa took 4/34 in the 2024 Australia match. Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner each took three wickets in the 6 November 2025 game. Santner also took 2/21 against South Africa in March 2026.
Spin can break a partnership and slow an innings. Its value is not limited to low-scoring matches. The three-wicket spells from Sodhi and Santner came in a game where both teams passed 200. Look at the bowler’s control and the batter’s scoring areas, not just the ground’s small size.
Phase-By-Phase Pitch Reading
| Phase | What The Scorecards Show | Useful Ground Reading |
|---|---|---|
| Overs 1–6 | Pakistan scored 75 in the first six overs of its March 2025 chase | A quick start is possible; the new ball does not make this a slow-scoring phase by default |
| Overs 7–15 | New Zealand added 93 runs in this phase of its 207/5 in November 2025 | Set batters can keep the scoring rate high; wickets matter more than a fixed phase rule |
| Overs 16–20 | West Indies added 87 late runs in its 204/8 in the same match | The closing overs can carry a sharp scoring rise when hitters remain at the crease |
These are examples from separate innings, not equal-size averages. The middle phase lasts nine overs, so its raw run total should not be compared directly with a six-over or five-over phase. A chase that ends early also has fewer late overs.

The recent results include both successful defences and chases. Some teams reached 200; others did not reach 150. This spread is more useful than calling Eden Park a ground where batting always wins.

Eden Park Pitch Report FAQs
Is Eden Park Batting Friendly?
It can be. The short straight boundaries support attacking shots, and the ground has hosted several 200-plus totals. Good pace and spin bowling can still restrict a side. Treat it as a ground with strong scoring options, not a promise of a high total.
Are Spinners Important At Eden Park?
Yes. Zampa, Sodhi and Santner have taken multi-wicket hauls here. Spin has also created wickets in high-scoring games.
Who Has The Most T20I Runs At Eden Park?
Martin Guptill leads with 626 runs from 17 matches. Colin Munro is second with 421.
Who Has The Most T20I Wickets At Eden Park?
Tim Southee leads with 23 wickets. Mitchell Santner has 17, while Lockie Ferguson has 15.
What Is The Highest T20I Score At Eden Park?

What Is The Average First-Innings Score?
The overall recorded-innings average is 167.00. It is 171.03 when only result matches are used. Both samples include shortened matches, so neither is a full-20-over-only average.
Does Batting First Have A Clear Results Advantage?
No. The recorded results split evenly: 16 wins batting first and 16 chasing. Those counts include tiebreaker outcomes. Four games had tied regulation scores before a bowl-out or Super Over decided the winner.
Record Scope: Men’s T20Is at the main Eden Park stadium, checked through 15 October 2026. Howstat ground tables and completed scorecards support the figures. No ODI, domestic T20 or women’s T20I records are mixed into the tables.
