The 2025-26 Ashes series will kick off at a new location, marking a historic moment for the Perth Stadium in Western Australia. Perth Stadium will be hosting its first ever Ashes game, breaking a 40 year ritual and record of Ashes kicking off at the Gabba in Brisbane. Instead, the series opener between Australia and England will take place at Perth Stadium, which will host its first-ever Ashes Test from November 21 to 25, 2025. This match will make Perth Stadium the eighth venue in Australia to host an Ashes Test after The Gabba, Adelaide Oval, Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Brisbane Exhibition Ground, WACA, and Bellerive Oval.
WACA Perth (another Perth venue) has not hosted an Ashes Test since December 2017, when Australia defeated England by an innings and 41 runs at the WACA. Perth Stadium was originally selected to host the fifth test match of the 2020/21 Ashes series, but at that time COVID-restriction in Western Australia forced that match to be shifted to Hobart’s Bellerive Oval. Historically, England has only won once in WACA Perth, back in 1978.
