Dale Steyn, the former South African fast bowler and cricketing legend had announced that he will not be part of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as their bowling coach in the upcoming IPL 2025 season. Instead, Steyn will continue his coaching role with Sunrisers Eastern Cape team in the SA20 league in South Africa.
In a message shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), Steyn expressed his gratitude to Sunrisers Hyderabad and talked about the time he spent with the team. Steyn quote “”A big thank you to Sunrisers Hyderabad for my few years with them as bowling coach at the IPL, unfortunately, I won’t be returning for IPL 2025. However, I will continue to work with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 here in South Africa.”
Steyn had earlier opted out of the IPL 2024 season due to some personal reasons which led SRH to appoint former New Zealand cricketer James Franklin as the new bowling coach. Franklin worked in collaboration with head coach Daniel Vettori for the IPL 2024 season. The combination of Vettori and Franklin, SRH reached the IPL final for the first time since 2018 and had an immense impact during the whole season. However SRH fell short against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final.
Steyn joined SRH in 2022 as bowling coach and had worked in the development of young promising talented fast bowler Umran Malik. As a player, Steyn represented several franchises, including SRH, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and former participants of IPL but currently defunct Deccan Chargers and Gujarat Lions. Steyn has been successful as a coach, leading his team to win back-to-back titles in the SA20 league in 2023 and 2024. Steyn’s aim is to achieve a third title in the SA20 league.
