Travis Head, Australia’s dynamic all-format player and ICC World Cup 2023 final hero, has rejoined his former BBL team Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season. This will be his 13th consecutive season with the Strikers, which was led by him in 2017-18 for the championship. However, due to his busy international schedule and national duties, Head will have limited availability this season. Head is ready to manage his International Test schedule to be available for Strikers for at least three games on January 11, 15, and 18.
Head’s international duties include a crucial five-match Test series against India, followed by a tour of Sri Lanka and participation in the ICC Champions Trophy. In Result, Adelaide Strikers will only have Head’s service for a short period of time before he takes on his international duties. The two match test series against Sri Lanka is anticipated to start around January 29 and as per Australian cricket board, players need to be a part of a ten-day preparation period prior overseas tours. This has made Head’s time with the Strikers especially limited.
As for the future, Head’s cricketing commitments remain dense. After the Champions Trophy in February-March, he may join Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) if retained or acquired at the auction. Following the IPL Australia is anticipated to play a test series against the West Indies and most probably the World Test Championship final.
Adelaide Strikers had a great season last year, ended up playing a playoff, but couldn;t counter Brisbane Heats and lost the playoff, Brisbane Heats went on to win the title. But Adelaide Strikers squad for BBL 2024-25 has a good mix of international players and Australians, a squad that features West Indian all-rounder Fabian Allen, England’s Jamie Overton and Ollie Pope, and local stars like Matthew Short, Alex Carey and Chris Lynn.
