Vaibhav Suryavanshi Biography: Age, Career, IPL Journey and Playing Style

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is an Indian left-hand top-order batter from Tajpur in Bihar. Born on 27 March 2011, he is 15 years old on 15 October 2026. He represents Bihar in domestic cricket and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. The official IPL and franchise material uses Vaibhav Suryavanshi, while some cricket databases use the spelling Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

Early cricket and domestic pathway

Suryavanshi came through Bihar’s age-group system and attracted attention before his teenage years. A key early innings came in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy in 2023, when he made 86 from 76 balls against Assam. That performance helped bring him into the BCCI’s under-19 pathway and led to further appearances for India Under-19.

He made his first-class debut for Bihar against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy at Patna from 5 to 8 January 2024, aged 12. His List A debut followed against Madhya Pradesh on 21 December 2024. He made his senior T20 debut for Bihar against Rajasthan on 23 November 2024.

His youth cricket also produced a notable unbeaten 332 in the Randhir Verma Tournament in Bihar. In 2024, he made 104 against Australia Under-19 in a youth Test, reaching three figures from 58 balls. Those performances established a pathway based on age-group cricket, domestic cricket and controlled progression rather than only a short IPL appearance.

India Under-19 milestones

Suryavanshi represented India Under-19 against Australia in 2024 and scored a rapid century in the four-day youth match. He also played age-group limited-overs cricket, including the Under-19 Asia Cup pathway. In the 2026 Under-19 World Cup, he was part of India’s title-winning campaign. The final supplied another major milestone: he made 175 from 80 balls against England, including 15 sixes and 15 fours.

These are India Under-19 achievements, not senior India caps. As of 15 October 2026, no reliable official senior Test, ODI or T20I debut record was verified for him. That distinction matters because his international cricket to this point has been youth cricket.

IPL journey with Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals bought Suryavanshi for ₹1.10 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was 13 at the time, making him the youngest player to receive an IPL contract. His base price was ₹30 lakh, and the final figure came after a bidding contest involving Rajasthan and Delhi Capitals.

He made his IPL debut for Rajasthan against Lucknow Super Giants on 19 April 2025 at age 14. He opened his innings with a six from the first ball he faced and finished with 34 from 20 balls. In his third IPL match, against Gujarat Titans, he struck 101 from 38 balls. The hundred came from 35 deliveries, making him the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket and, at that point, the second-fastest IPL hundred.

He finished IPL 2025 with 252 runs from seven matches at a strike rate of 206.55. His season ended with 57 from 33 balls against Chennai Super Kings. Rajasthan retained him for IPL 2026, and the official retention announcement dated 15 November 2025 lists him among the franchise’s retained players. A retained-player announcement confirms squad status; it does not by itself publish a new individual fee.

Playing style

Suryavanshi is an aggressive left-hand opener who attacks length early and looks to create scoring options across the field. His 34 from 20 balls on IPL debut showed that he was willing to take on senior bowlers immediately. His 101 against Gujarat Titans demonstrated more than raw power: he reached the hundred with boundary options against an attack containing several international bowlers.

Rajasthan batting coach Vikram Rathour attributed his power partly to a strong downswing. His 57 against Chennai Super Kings was a useful counterpoint to the hundred because it showed he could select scoring options rather than swing at every delivery. He is listed as a slow left-arm orthodox bowler, but batting is clearly his primary role.
