Updated October 14, 2026
The IPL 2027 retained players list is still not available as a complete official league-wide document. The latest timeline is a reported 15 November 2026 submission deadline, while several confirmed trades and coaching changes have reshaped team planning.
This guide separates official player moves from attributed reports, unresolved talks and staff appointments. It does not treat a coaching announcement, an old squad association or a prediction as a retention decision.

October 14 Update: What Is Known
- Complete retention list: No official all-team IPL 2027 retained and released list was verified by the October 14 research cutoff.
- Reported submission deadline: Business Standard, citing Cricbuzz, reported that franchises must submit retained and released players by 15 November 2026. No independently located public IPL or BCCI notice confirming that date was found in this check.
- Confirmed trade: The IPL and Delhi Capitals confirmed on October 14 that T Natarajan moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad at a revised fee of ₹5 crore, while Zeeshan Ansari moved to Delhi at his existing ₹40 lakh fee.
- Earlier confirmed trade: Rishabh Pant returned to Delhi Capitals at a revised ₹15 crore fee and Kuldeep Yadav moved to Lucknow Super Giants at his existing ₹13.50 crore fee in the IPL’s June 23 advisory.
- Unresolved talks: Cricbuzz reported that earlier Mumbai Indians–Rajasthan Royals discussions over a possible Hardik Pandya–Yashasvi Jaiswal swap stalled. The franchises were not currently in talks, and no trade was announced.
- Staff, not player list: Yuvraj Singh’s Delhi Capitals coaching appointment and Zaheer Khan’s CSK appointment are confirmed staff developments. They do not confirm any player’s retention or release.

IPL 2027 Retention Status
A deadline tells franchises when to submit decisions; it does not reveal which players are retained. The reported November date is therefore a point to watch, not a published list of names or a simultaneous announcement time.
A complete list should identify retained players, released players, completed trades and each team’s resulting auction position. Until an official consolidated release or clear franchise announcement appears, circulating team lists should not be labelled final.
The upcoming auction is expected to be a mini-auction within the current 2025–27 cycle. That gives teams room to preserve much of their existing core and address specific gaps, but it does not create a blanket six-player limit for IPL 2027.
Confirmed Player Trades
Pant And Kuldeep: The June Trade
The IPL’s June 23, 2026 media advisory confirmed the trade between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants:
- Rishabh Pant returned from LSG to DC at a revised fee of ₹15 crore.
- Kuldeep Yadav moved from DC to LSG at his existing fee of ₹13.50 crore.
The advisory’s ₹15 crore figure is Pant’s revised trade fee. His earlier ₹27 crore auction price is not the fee to use for this move. The trade changes the players’ franchises, but it is not the 2027 league-wide retention list. Read more on Rishabh Pant’s player page.
Natarajan And Ansari: Completed On October 14
The IPL and Delhi Capitals confirmed the completed SRH–DC trade on October 14. T Natarajan moved from Delhi Capitals back to Sunrisers Hyderabad at a revised ₹5 crore fee. Zeeshan Ansari moved from SRH to DC at his existing ₹40 lakh fee.
The IPL advisory says Natarajan represented SRH from 2020 through 2024 and took 19 wickets in IPL 2024. It also says Ansari played 10 matches for SRH in IPL 2025, took six wickets and did not play for SRH in IPL 2026. Those details provide context for the trade; they do not amount to a full retention list.
Cricbuzz covered the move, while the IPL and Delhi Capitals announcements provide the primary confirmation. The exact auction date remains separate and unannounced.
Hardik–Jaiswal Talks Remain Unresolved
Cricbuzz reported on October 14 that Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals had discussed a possible Hardik Pandya–Yashasvi Jaiswal swap months earlier. The talks made little headway, and the franchises were not currently engaged in discussions, according to that report.
The proposal appeared unlikely to materialise at that stage but had not been completely ruled out. No official trade announcement confirmed Hardik’s move to Rajasthan or Jaiswal’s move to Mumbai. Cricbuzz also reported that Jaiswal remained contractually bound to Rajasthan for at least one more season.
The IPL’s historical 2026 retention announcement listed Hardik with Mumbai Indians and Jaiswal with Rajasthan Royals. That establishes their 2026 franchise associations only; it is not proof of either player’s IPL 2027 retention. The reported talks must therefore remain separate from confirmed trades.
Retain, Release And Trade Mean Different Things
A retained player stays with a franchise through its retention process. A released player leaves that contracted squad, although release alone does not guarantee a place in the auction’s final player pool. A traded player moves between franchises through the league’s transfer process, with the announced terms determining the relevant fee and destination.
These labels should not be mixed. A player linked to a team is not necessarily retained there. A completed trade is not the same as a release, and a reported conversation is not an agreement.
Reported November 15 Deadline
Business Standard’s October 10 report, attributing the information to Cricbuzz, says franchises have been given 15 November 2026 to submit their retained and released players. This guide treats the date as reported and attributed, not as an independently verified official public notice.
The submission date does not mean that all ten franchises will publish lists at the same time. A team may communicate its decisions separately, and a consolidated IPL release may follow. The useful check will be whether a list is issued by the relevant franchise or league authority.
Business Standard also reported that stakeholders were called to Mumbai on 15 October 2026. That meeting was described as an operational and planning discussion involving franchise representatives, broadcasters and host associations. It was not itself a published retention list.
Mini-Auction And The ₹157 Crore Cap
The 2025–27 regulations place IPL 2027 in the mini-auction part of the current cycle. Fans should not carry over the maximum-six-player retention and Right to Match framework used for the 2025 mega-auction as a blanket IPL 2027 rule.
The 2027 total salary cap is ₹157 crore. It includes the auction purse, incremental performance pay and match fees. It is not ₹157 crore of unspent auction money available to every franchise. A team’s actual auction position depends on its contracted squad, confirmed releases, trades and the applicable auction rules.
Staff Updates Are Separate From Player Decisions
Coaching and performance appointments affect planning, but they are not retained, released or traded players.
- Delhi Capitals: The franchise officially announced Yuvraj Singh as Assistant and Batting Coach for IPL 2027 on October 13. It is his first formal coaching assignment, and he will work under head coach Sourav Ganguly. The appointment is coaching only, not a player return or retention.
- Chennai Super Kings: CSK officially appointed Zaheer Khan as head coach on September 21, replacing Stephen Fleming. Cricbuzz’s October 10 analysis examined Zaheer’s tactical planning, player development and communication style. His eventual staff, selection choices and results remain unresolved.
- Mike Hussey: Cricbuzz reported on October 9 that CSK had removed Hussey from its coaching roster and formally informed him. No replacement batting coach was identified in the available reporting.
- James Foster: Cricbuzz reported that the decision on Foster’s extension was held in abeyance. His departure was not confirmed as of October 14.
- Mumbai Indians: Zubin Bharucha joined as director of performance, a confirmed staff appointment rather than a player transaction.
- Kolkata Knight Riders: After Ajinkya Rahane’s retirement from all formats, KKR needed a new captain. Rinku Singh was described in reporting as a leading candidate, not as an announced appointment.
What To Check When The List Arrives
When official retention information is released, check four things:
- Which players are explicitly retained.
- Which players are explicitly released.
- Which trades are completed and what fees are stated.
- What auction funds remain after the final squad position is known.
Do not use an old auction price as a later trade fee, as the Pant and Natarajan moves demonstrate. Do not turn staff appointments, historical franchise associations or unresolved discussions into player-list claims.
